Hope Mills Dam Repair
Hope Mills, North Carolina
Heavy rains in May 2003 washed out the road embankments that helped form Hope Mills Dam. This led to the draining of the lake and washed out portions of the roadway. Morrison Engineers was hired to work in conjunction with McKim & Creed and Mactec to redesign the Hope Mills Dam. Due to the large size of the watershed (94.4 square miles) the Dam has been built with finger-like labyrinths as well as housing a fish ladder.
Structural Elements:
H-Pile Foundations
Temporary Soil Nailing for Construction
Temporary Sheet Piles for River Diversion
Reinforced Concrete Footings, Walls, and Slab
The construction on Hope Mills Dam was completed in late 2008.
